Poplar/La Crosse, Wis. — Kenneth Lenard Lintelmann, 86, of Poplar and formerly of La Crosse, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, Minn.

He was born Feb. 21, 1920, in Norwalk, Wis., and moved to La Crosse in 1923 with his parents George and Irene (Dittman) Lintelmann. He was raised in La Crosse and graduated from Central High School in 1939.

He joined the US Army Air Corps on Nov. 25, 1941, serving in intelligence as a carbine marksman and submachine gun expert in air offensives in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged in Sept. 1945, with the rank of sergeant.

During this time he married Mavis L. Tompkins in St. Louis on Nov. 26, 1942. She preceded him in death Nov. 15, 1987. Together they had three daughters, Sharon Kay, Becky Lynn and Kathy Lee.

He was employed at the Trane Co., retiring in 1985. Kenneth was a member of the Trane Co. 25 Year Club and Bible Baptist Church where he served as trustee and deacon.

He was an avid Catbird basketball fan and was also a member of Duck’s Unlimited and the La Crosse Historical Society. Kenneth enjoyed history, reading, collecting and his time as a Boy Scout leader. He loved to travel, especially his trips to England, China and Australia.

On July 7, 1990, he married Ruth M. Waldin and moved to Poplar, Wis., where he was a member of Mission Covenant Church. He was also in the Gideon Society International and Child Evangelism Fellowship, as chairman of the state board and the American Legion Post 409.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Sharon Kay Lintelmann of Adams, Wis., Becky Lynn (John) Marcou of Onalaska, Wis., and Kathy Lee (Gregory) Roesler of Coon Valley, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Tracy (David) Hatch, Kari ( Ron) Tischer, John (Kristen) Marcou, Tim (Shana) Marcou, Scott (Darcy) Marcou, Nathaniel Roesler and Nicholas Roesler; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Thema (Bill) Weber and Margaret Waldin; and special cousins-in-law, Steve and Delores Staurseth.

In addition to his first wife; he was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Bible Baptist Church, La Crosse. Pastor William Heisler will officiate. Entombment with military honors by Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 will be in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum, Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
